BT – My Sister’s Bones by Nuala Ellwood.

๐ŸŽƒHappy Hallowe’en my darling book geeks of the world. I hope you are all good?๐ŸŽƒ

Thank you for taking the time out of your day today to join me on day number 7 of Nuala Elwood’s #MySistersBones blog tour.

๐Ÿ’€Now, with it being a day where anything can happen, let me just tell you now that this book is the PERFECT Halloween book for you to read today/tonight. Am not being funny right, but you’re gonna be up and down all night at the door aren’t you? So you’ll want something to keep you company and then something you can sink right into with the leftover trick or treat candy, right? Obviously it needs to be dramatic! Obviously it needs to be worrying! Obviously it needs to be mysterious, frightening, creepy and totally real life, it is Halloween after all. But even though this book is all of that and very much more and like I said the absolute perfect read for today, you always have tomorrow too.

My Sister’s Bones is a book you will NOT put down. It is a book you will NOT know what to do with as it shatters your mind into a million pieces then kills you off with a twist so hard it picks up all the shattered pieces, glues them back together again and then laughs in your face as it smashes it to pieces once again. (I know, right? What a bastard.) And, it is also NOT a book you wont tell people about once you’re a done. You have no choice really because you need them to have their eyes pulled open, and for them to be put in a place of destruction and fascination where only the readers of this book can go so that you can talk and gush about it with them. It is THAT good! It is insanely good!

Now, I know I’m supposed to give you a review, but I just don’t want too. I can’t because I’ll give something away and then you’ll hate me. You need to go in blind, and you need to let it run and just allow yourself to be dragged through every twist and turn and over every heart wrenching obstacle you come across so you come out bloody and covered in bruises. You won’t be able to fully submerge yourself into the read any other way.

You know what?  You just need to this read this book and I promise you from the bottom of my heart you won’t be let down.

Before I go though we need to get serious for a minute here. Yep, this is a twisty turny book of mysterious chaos, sheer trepidation and utter shock, but it also has other sides to it too. Sides that to be frank, aren’t fucking nice in the slightest. I’m talking PTSD, Alcoholism, domestic violence and abuse, plus the horrific in-depth and very real war that is happening right this minute in Aleppo, Syria. It’s truth burns deep and I won’t lie it does leaves you numb and feeling pretty shit. It is real life and Nuala Ellwood has thoroughly researched and given us nothing but truth in every aspect of what she’s written. It’s hard to read at times I’ll be honest, and you feel so utterly helpless. You know what though? To feel like that and so strongly whether it’s truth or fiction just goes to show you the quality of Nuala Ellwood’s work.

The way in which she portrays mental health, especially PTSD, so thorough, careful and honest. It gives you a clear precise and overall better understand of the condition which some do think it’s a condition that only soldiers get. Life is hard enough as it is and PTSD can be picked up at any time in life where there has been some kind of trauma. It’s great to see that in a book. I honestly think being given more information about the world today some you might not necessarily want to hear about or one you turn a blind eye too (we all do it, don’t worry.) well, I’ll be totally honest, I find that extremely clever.

Nuala Ellwood has seriously kicked any debut book out of the ‘best debut book’ running awards and has already placed herself high on the 2017 book of the year list.

It is so good and it is worth every minute you invest into it.

Nuala, you my friend are an absolute fucking genius. 2017 is your year and I look forward to reading whatever you throw at us next.

Clever, emotionally compelling, absolutely captivating, so convincing and utterly creepy. And one hard core mind fucker of a book.
