Review: One More for Christmas by Sarah Morgan

🎄Blurb: Gayle is a highly successful and motivated business woman, but her success has come at a price – she hasn’t spoken to her daughters, Ella and Samantha, for years. But when Gayle has an accident at work, she realises she needs to make amends with her family.

And so she invites herself to join Ella and Samantha for their Christmas in the beautiful Scottish Highlands. The sisters are none too pleased that their mother has inserted herself into their Christmas plans. They have each other – and don’t need their mother back in their lives. Or so they think…

As they embark on their first family Christmas together in years, will the three women learn that sometimes facing up to a few home truths is all you need to heal your heart?

🎄My Thoughts: Sarah Morgan doesn’t pretend to be someone she is not. She consistently gives us joyous, beautiful, uplifting and warm reads. You know what you’re getting from the start and that is what makes her, in my opinion, one of the best women’s fiction/romance writers of all time. However, One More for Christmas gave me a more darker and deeper feel than normal. I loved it.

Following the turbulent family drama of the Mitchel family and combining that with the emotional grief of the McIntyre Family as they come together over the Christmas period. We are given a wholesome, wonderful mix of pleasure and pain. A story about family values, relationships, real life awfulness, family feuds. But most of all, making the most out of the time we have and making sure the hidden inner you gets a peak at life too. Lessons I believe we all could learn from.

I will say though for a Christmas book let’s just say some parts are definitely hot enough to melt the snow outside in the snowy grounds of the beautiful Scottish Kinleven Lodge. (Which I wish was real so I could book it for a Christmas break myself for me and my family. It sounds like the most beautiful place to spend time at).

So just like Brodie gave Samantha all the stars. I’ll be giving Sarah the same. No wait.. Not like that. Oh my god! I meant like stars in review stars……. Erm, am just going to go 👀

Sarah Morgan has once again given us a blissful beautiful, uplifting, warm and lovely read

Five stars

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Review: All I Want for Christmas by Joanna Bolouri

🎄Blurb: When Nick loses his job and is dumped by his glamorous but demanding girlfriend, he is forced to grudgingly accept work as a Santa at a local Christmas grotto. As his friends are getting married or promoted, Nick spends his days being terrorised by unfriendly elves and cried on by snotty, spoiled children.

Then he meets 4-year-old Alfie. All Alfie wants for Christmas is for his mum, Sarah, to be happy again. Moved by the boy’s selfless wish, Nick arranges a date between Sarah and his best friend, Matt. But as Sarah and Alfie become part of all their lives, Nick realises that happiness for Sarah and Matt might mean heartbreak for himself.

🎄My Thoughts: Ok so I did start writing a review right but it just wasn’t flowing right and wasn’t me. It was dead cheesy and sounded like I was lying about the book. So I’ve decided to just give you me notes that I made when I was reading it. Enjoy 🤦🏻‍♀️😂

Male protagonist (Which is nice. Rarity in this genre)

Nick Harris – skinny armed idiot.

Ugh The Sun – the rag – JFT96!

Fuck sake! Russian Santa!

I now in my head have fake Santa talking like Bert Kreischer telling us how his new Russian mafia friends talk. It has amused me greatly!

It’s nice to be able to be at ease with a book. One in which you relax straight into and forget your troubles

This book proper tugs on the good heartstrings. Nick is an absolute beautiful soul, especially with kids

His over use of the word fucking is incredible though. Defo my kind of person. I’m defo right at home here.

Joanna Bolouri is easy reading made incredibly fun. She has a fantastic way with words and doesn’t fail in giving you authentic characters that charm you from the get go.

I then tweeted and instagrammed our JB this:

Bolouri, why when Mrs, Buckley opens the door and exclaims ‘There’s my boys!’ Did I choke up?

Woman, you’re hilarious, I love you, but this book is hitting me with all the feels and I just didn’t sign up for that. Stop it. Well don’t, but I deliberately picked this book to read to be uplifting and happy-go-lucky. It is that, but the feels, the bloody feels. For fuck sake what are you doing to me?

Carrying on….

I adore Matt and Nicks friendship. I’m on absolute pins here waiting to see what happens next. If what I have in my head is true, that friendship is not surviving at all and I will be distraught.

We all need a Nick you know. Humble, quick witted, extremely charming, good looking and apparently very good in bed. Oh, and he wants to make someone extremely happy that is all. – Ok, I take it back, he’s more of a cat person than a dog one so that’s me out !

Oh my god! Oh my fucking god! Nooooo. My heart can’t take it.

Ending was super fast! But worth it. But cringe at times but for some reason I’ll allow it. What the fuck is up with me.

Authors do try to give real life and to be fair most fail miserably. But there are a few I have in my favourite pile that actually can pull it off. Most seem to be northern like and I do hold that as a competition to any southern author to make me eat my words. But yeah, our Bolouri is defo up there at the top at giving us actual real life. The dregs and dirt and grit that we need to make it authentic. Spot on.

Friendship, betrayal, love and lust, theme parks, claridges and dodgy looking Argos watches. Clever comebacks that have you actually laughing out loud and not just pretending to through text LOL. And wobbly lip heart wrenching moments that make you want to cry. Santa Claus and our very own Saint Nick certainly do give us everything we need for Christmas. Bolouri certainly has made her mark here with All I Want For Christmas. It melts the most cold and icy hearts faster than a mug of festive mulled wine.

An emotionally complicated fuck up of a book that radiates nothing but love, family and friendship. Everything Christmas is all about.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

5/5

Hello Strangers – 2019 Christmas Bookathon.

Hello strangers,

How are you all doing? First of all thank you so so much for all your messages and well wishes while I’ve been poorly. I’m still not where I need to be, but I am back reading and getting ready to start my 2019 Christmas Bookathon.

I have some amazing authors and titles already included and can’t wait to get it together properly. Authors/Publishers if you would like your Christmas/winter titles to be involved please do get in touch. The more the merrier I say.

I’m so excited to be pushing myself forward sooner than anticipated and actually happy to do so. I can’t say I’m back 100% because yeah that’s not what’s happening at all, but with a Bookathon, I can lock myself away and get it done instead of worrying about time limits and release dates. Plus, it keeps me occupied instead of going out of my head with boredom or concentrating on pain.

I’ll of course update the list every time another book is added. So far, though it’s a great list, take a look. A lot are of course are up for pre-sale and are going to be available very soon, but some are available for purchase right now. I’ve also opened the genre up a bit and have welcomed in children’s books and crime/thrillers. Also, books without Christmas in the title but reflect the Christmas/December/Winter period. Still not putting the historical genre in though. I know, I’m terrible, but I can’t, I just cannot get into the genre no matter how hard I try. They have loads of Christmas books upcoming too. Sorry!!!!

Oh and I’ll also link them up for you too. Please be aware that these are not in order of release date. I will put in publication dates underneath for you though. Also, even though these are linked up to Amazon, I am in no way affiliated or making money from these links. I just find most people use kindle for reading if not purchasing the actual book.

Anyway, list so far…

Rebecca Chance

Not even a book blogger ranting, just a normal reader ranting.

Ok, so yesterday I heard some absolutely devastating news from the book world. The news being that our beloved Queen of the Bonk-Buster, Rebecca Chance, will no longer be writing under that pseudonym or giving us any more of her amazing, original and damn right fucking brilliant reads. Why? Well, I can assure you that’s not on her, it’s on her publishers, Pan Macmillan.

Oh come on. She’s a bestselling novelist and has been for-fucking-ever. She no doubt brings a lot more than some other authors do and to be fair here she should not be penalised for over seas not understanding her humour or should I say our English humour. And it doesn’t matter if she’s the only one, she’s the only one we need and want. It just shows how superior she is.

Bless her so much. I know she’s probably not nearly as arsed as I am like 🤦🏻‍♀️😂

As for the genre in itself though, I do personally class it the same as romance/comedy/chick-lit/rom-com/new adult/contemporary/modern/etc… I know a lot of people do.

I’m livid. I know I’m not the only one who feels this way about our BB Queen not being able to give us our yearly gift of debauchery, scandal and laughs.

Come on PanMac what are you playing at? Yes, we know we still get the brilliance of her pen and mind with Lauren Henderson and the crime genre. Which is also fantastic work, but some people don’t want crime! Some people don’t like crime! In fact, some people fucking hate crime. Especially with that and the psychological thriller genres being packed to the brim right now and being thrown at us every hour on the hour. It’s overwhelming, it’s getting very boring and we need a break away from it. Do you know what would be the perfect break in between that? Rebecca Chance and her uplifting ingenious books that’s what. Don’t get me wrong, I love the crime genre and RC even has crime in her novels, but you get the gist though.

RC, I’m gutted for you my love. I really am. Thank you so much for all the books, all the tears (both sad and happy), all the laughs, all the weird looks from people when you actually laugh out loud in public. All the gasps and smirks and snorting. All the joy and uplifting spirit. All the hard work and passion you’ve given us for the last ten years. You are a queen and a talent like no other that we will all miss desperately.

To anyone who does not know who Rebecca Chance is where the hell have you been? You so better go get your head stuck right into one of her books. Believe me, you will NOT be disappointed at all. I am re-reading from the start again now to make myself feel better. Her books will be available underneath all linked up so you can purchase and piss yourself with pleasure. It’s all glamour and honesty and just absolute reading bliss. She’s something completely off the charts and mesmerising. I sound like a lick-arse here, but I honestly do not give a riding shite. It’s the truth and you know the truth is all I do.

Love as always,

N 💔

P.S… Mile High is currently on offer for 99p on amazon. BARGAIN! So there’s no excuse really not to grab a copy. Goes amazing with a wine you know. Or a gin for that matter. Or a cuppa tea. Or anything really.

P.P.S… You could go check out her other work that’s available under Lauren Henderson too if you want like, but right now I’d stick to RC and read them after 👍🏻

Rebecca Chance was born in Hampstead to international art dealer parents, and grew up in the exclusive millionaire’s row surroundings of London’s St John’s Wood. Tiring of her cushioned, privileged existence, she ran away to Tuscany to live a wild bohemian life on a wine-making estate, where she lived in a 14th century villa in a Chianti vineyard, partying with artists, learning Italian, and picking grapes. But big city life was calling her, and after staying in Rome and Porto Ercole, she moved to Manhattan, lured by the glamorous single-girl existence and nonstop nightlife. She spent a decade living the Sex and The City dream in SoHo, equally at home in an uptown penthouse on Fifth Avenue overlooking the Metropolitan Museum, or downtown dancing on the bar of the Coyote Ugly for kicks. Eventually, a handsome American husband in tow, she moved back to London to settle down (as much as she can) and finally fictionalize some of her most exciting and glamorous experiences into her bestselling blockbuster novels.

Rebecca’s interests include trapeze, pole-dancing, watching “America’s Next Top Model”, and cocktail-drinking.

BT – A Year of Second Chances by Kendra Smith.

Hello my gorgeous book geeks.

How are we all today?

As you can see I am hosting day number seven on the blog tour for Kendra Smith’s fantastic new release, A Year of Second Chances.

Let’s go…..

💕Blurb: Three women. Three very different lives. One life-changing adventure.

Charlie is a single mum unlucky in life. Her multiple jobs make barely enough to feed the family cat, never mind being able to give her son the life he deserves. So when an opportunity to make a lot of cash comes along, she simply has to take it.

Suzie has always wanted to be a mother. But fate has been cruel and now time is running out. Soon her final frozen egg will be destroyed and her last chance of having a baby will go with it. With her husband resolved to their childless life Suzie takes matters into her own hands.

Dawn is about to turn fifty and seems to have misplaced her mojo along with the car keys. But with an interfering mother-in-law and a gaggle of judgemental mums at her children’s school, it’s proving harder to find than a decent fitting bra. Especially after a series of highly embarrassing incidents…

Over the course of a year three lives are about to collide and as they do be prepared to laugh, cry and fall in love with these women as they discover how life can give you a second chance.

💕My Thoughts: What started out as a book I was ready to lash on the CBA pile or the DNR pile as it’s known too most. I decided to stay with it and to be honest I’m glad I did.

A Year of second Chances is the perfect choice if you’re looking for a fast-paced, easy read.

It really is a lovely book, written well with an honest and genuine plot. A cast of characters that to me somehow should not fit together, but do which makes it just that bit more special of a friendship.

It’s catty and funny and dramatic and warm and most of all real. And when something is real, then we feel it more. So to read a book like that is always worthwhile. This one for sure is.

Real life.

Real love.

Real problems.

Real friendships.

Real women.

Real reading!

BT – Secrets and Seashells at Rainbow Bay by Ali McNamara.

Hiya you lot, you all ok?

Thank you as always for joining me here at TBGWP and giving me your support.

Today I am honoured to be co-hosting day number two on the wonderful Ali McNamara’s blog tour for her upcoming release, Secrets and Seashells at Rainbow Bay.

🌈Blurb: The sun is shining on the golden castle on Rainbow Bay – and change is in the air!

Amelia is a single mother, doing her very best to look after her young son, Charlie – but money is tight and times are tough. When she first hears that she is the last descendent of the Chesterford family and that she has inherited a Real-Life Castle by the sea, Amelia can’t quite believe her ears. But it’s true!

She soon finds that owning a castle isn’t quite the ticket to sorting out her money problems that she’d first hoped: she can’t sell, because the terms of the ancient bequest state that any Chesterford who inherits the castle, must live there and work towards the upkeep and maintenance of the family home. So ever-practical Amelia decides to uproot her little family and move to this magnificent castle by the sea.

Living in a castle on the beautiful Northumberland coast is fun at first, but organising the day-to-day running is a lot more complicated than Amelia first imagined. Luckily she has help from the small band of eccentric and unconventional staff that are already employed there – and a mysterious unseen hand that often gives her a push in the right direction just when she needs it most. It’s only when she meets Tom, a furniture restorer who comes to the castle to help repair some antique furniture, that Amelia realises she might get the fairy-tale ending that she and Charlie truly deserve…

🌈My Thoughts: Ali always gives us more than a normal romance read and book ten does not differ.

Secrets and Seashells at Rainbow Bay is a beautiful read. It’s exciting and funny and dramatic and over the top. Everything you want in escapism.

For me though the best thing about the read is the honesty and love that comes from it. The love between the characters and the constant reminder of equality and how much for granted we should not be taking anything in life.

Ali McNamara attributes her over-active and very vivid imagination to one thing – being an only child. Time spent dreaming up adventures when she was young has left her with a head bursting with stories waiting to be told.

When stories she wrote for fun on Ronan Keating’s website became so popular they were sold as a fundraising project for his cancer awareness charity, Ali realised that not only was writing something she enjoyed doing, but something others enjoyed reading too.

Ali lives in Cambridgeshire with her family and two Labradors. When she isn’t writing, she likes to travel, read, and people-watch, more often than not accompanied by a good cup of coffee. Her dogs and a love of exercise keep her sane!

BT – This is Me by Shari Low.

I’d say good morning you lovely book geeks of the world, but I think a simple hello is best as it’s Saturday and a lot of you are still in bed. To the rest of you who aren’t or are at work. I salute you and give you full permission to have a nice bottle of wine when you get home. Don’t forget to pair it with Shari Lows amazing new novel, This is Me! It’s honestly the perfect de-stressing match.

Not even gonna lie that was a smooth opening into getting you to buy this book 😂 Wine is always a winner! PR at its best there 👀🤦🏻‍♀️

Anyway, sorry, I’m being a knob and going on.

I am here today bringing you the book details, an exclusive extract and my thoughts on what can only be described as a controversial and seriously entertaining read.

It’s day three on leg one of Shari Lows, This is Me Blog Tour and I’m The Book Geek Wears Pajamas. Let’s go…

💠Blurb: This is… Denise.

Married to Ray, her first and only love, Denise has never for one moment regretted putting the husband she idolised on a pedestal above everyone and everything else. But, after forty years of marriage, he is gone, leaving Denise to discover that their perfect marriage was fatally flawed. Now she faces a future alone, but first she must face the betrayals of the past.

This is… Claire.

The estranged daughter of Denise, the woman who put her husband before her children, Claire took the opposite path and devoted her life to raising her family, sacrificing her marriage along the way. With her teenage sons about to flee the nest, she realises she may have left it too late to find her own happy ever after.

This is the story of two women, both alone, both cautionary tales of one of motherhood’s biggest decisions.

Who is more important, your partner or your children? And what happens if you make the wrong choice?

💠Extract:

💠My Thoughts: By the now the term emotional rollercoaster has become a reviewing cliche. It seems every book you read a review on is one. God, I’m probably guilty of this too so don’t be offended by it.

To me the term emotional rollercoaster is one I don’t use lightly. I do have to be up and down and literally shook with a headache. I want my head getting smashed from side to side into the safety bars of the ride. And I want the thrill, fear, laughter, love, hate, chills, nausea and absolute honestly and truth of the wind! I want it all! There aren’t many authors who can achieve such a head smashing. Shari Low is one of those in which we can rely on to give us exactly that. The emotional rollercoaster with a side of weak bladder laughter to balance it out.

This is Me is poignant, honest, funny and thought provoking book. Not going to lie it has a slow start, but it is totally worth the time invested into it. Once you’re in, you’re in!

It’s hard to write a review when you are faced with identifiable characters you know. This allows you to emerge yourself deeply into the read and the emotions of both protagonists. Whether you agree with them in heart or even morally or not. You will always be empathetic and you will always question why people choose the paths and people they do. Question priorities and why they differ from one another. It becomes real life. And when fiction becomes non-fiction then you know that’s a damn good read!

Life is a balancing act that none of us ever get right at first. This is Me is proof of that.

BT – You, Me and the Movies by Fiona Collins.

Hiya, you lot!

Did you all have an amazing bank holiday weekend? Are you all sunburned and still a bit hungover? Don’t worry we’re all in the same boat.👀💊👍🏻

Today is day one on Fiona Collins’s blog tour for her upcoming release, You, Me and the Movies.

I love a bit of Fiona Collins me so I was made up to get asked to come onto to the tour and read the book. She has had me crossing my legs in laughter far too many times. You mothers and older ladies will know what I mean by that 😉

Shall we get started?

🎬Blurb: Two people. Ten classic films. A love story you’ll never forget.

Arden has just started university when she meets Mac – and quickly falls head over heels for the handsome, charismatic film lecturer. Their love affair is dramatic, exciting and all-consuming; the sort of thing you only see in the movies.

It couldn’t last. But thirty years later, leading a very different life, Arden is visiting a friend in hospital when she suddenly comes across the man she never forgot. Badly injured in an accident, Mac can only make brief references to the classic films they once watched together: Casablanca, A Star is Born, Pretty Woman among others… and they make Arden remember everything.

The bittersweet memories of their relationship help Arden re-connect with the world in a way she no longer thought was possible. But will a movie-worthy love ever be hers again?

🎬My Thoughts: You know me by now and I will always tell you the truth with my reviews. Blog tour or not. The truth is the truth.

You, me and the movies is unfortunately not my favourite. I see it being an absolute smash and a book most readers will have on their TBR. It’s beautiful, it’s fun, it’s sensitive and poignant. It’s a clear winner for people who want a clever and original love story with well thought out characters. I do in all honestly want you to read this book! Seriously pre-order it or grab the ebook now and see for yourself.

Obviously you’re going to want to know my issues with it after that aren’t you?

So, for me it is not a book you can just casually pick up and read. It’s one you really have to give time and effort too. I wouldn’t say it’s long winded, but you do have to give it time. When it comes to this genre that is just not for me. I don’t want to have to try if you get me. I just want easy, none thinking reading.

I am also seriously no movie buff! Especially with the classics and basically any movie, so I did get lost a bit with some of the movie details and references.

I also couldn’t fully connect with Arden and for me I need that connection.

See, it’s not even bad. It’s just me being me. But I can’t not tell you that because it’s a blog tour post and review.

Anyway, read the other reviews they are hot shit! And one of the best things about it for me is that it has given me reason to have one super massive movie marathon. I do intent to watch the ten films from the book! Oh, and for sure in Arden and Mac’s order. I also will re-read You, Me and the Movies again after that movie marathon and when the paperback is released. Who knows I might eat my words. I’ve done it before haven’t I?

Right now it’s a 3/5 star book for me and that in itself is brilliant!

So if you’re wanting a nostalgic, intense, original, tearfully funny read with a dramatic love story and a huge slice of movie pie then this is definitely your book. Make sure you have your popcorn, tissues and wine ready, you’re going to need them all.

BT – A View to a Kilt by Wendy Holden.

Happy Sunday fellow book geeks of the world. Today we are donning our kilts and reading our way through a little sneaky peak of the fabulous, A View to a Kilt by the one and only Wendy Holden!!

Wendy Holden though please? Queen of RomCom. Queen of Chick-Lit. Queen of the bestsellers! Get that crown Wendy babe 👑

Shall we get started?

♥️💙Blurb: London’s most glamorous glossy magazine is in trouble. Advertising revenues are non existent, and if editor Laura Lake can’t pick them up, she’s out of a job.

According to those in the know, Scotland is having a fashion moment. Haggis tempura is on Michelin-starred menus, smart spas are offering porridge facials, and a chain of eco-hotels is offering celebrity bagpipe lessons. So Laura’s off to a baronial estate in the Scottish Highlands to get a slice of this ultra-high-end market.

It’s supposed to be gorgeous, glitzy and glamorous. But intrigue follows Laura like night follows day. And at Glenravish Castle – a shooting lodge fit for a billionaire – Laura finds herself hunting for a scoop that won’t just save her job, it could save her life…

💙♥️Extract:

💙♥️My Mini Thoughts: If you haven’t already been introduced to Laura Lake then you have seriously been missing out! She is honestly one of the best chick lit characters around. Don’t worry if you haven’t though because you can jump straight in here with A View to a Kilt and read it as a stand-alone.

As always with a Wendy Holden read you end up completely engrossed in her words. With a decent character set up and a plot that seems pretty straight forward, it in fact is not and actually laughs in your face. It then calls you stupid and drags you back into the read with a bit of mystery and a lot of smirking! Can’t beat a book that not only smirks at you but has you smirking right back at it. Very clever writing. Well Done to our Wend on that one 👍🏻 thoroughly enjoyable!

A View to a Kilt is the escapism we all need and deserve. It’s funny, it’s bold, it’s crazy, it’s fast-paced and it’s bloody golden. Shit, I mean tartan!
