BT – This is Me by Shari Low.

I’d say good morning you lovely book geeks of the world, but I think a simple hello is best as it’s Saturday and a lot of you are still in bed. To the rest of you who aren’t or are at work. I salute you and give you full permission to have a nice bottle of wine when you get home. Don’t forget to pair it with Shari Lows amazing new novel, This is Me! It’s honestly the perfect de-stressing match.

Not even gonna lie that was a smooth opening into getting you to buy this book 😂 Wine is always a winner! PR at its best there 👀🤦🏻‍♀️

Anyway, sorry, I’m being a knob and going on.

I am here today bringing you the book details, an exclusive extract and my thoughts on what can only be described as a controversial and seriously entertaining read.

It’s day three on leg one of Shari Lows, This is Me Blog Tour and I’m The Book Geek Wears Pajamas. Let’s go…

💠Blurb: This is… Denise.

Married to Ray, her first and only love, Denise has never for one moment regretted putting the husband she idolised on a pedestal above everyone and everything else. But, after forty years of marriage, he is gone, leaving Denise to discover that their perfect marriage was fatally flawed. Now she faces a future alone, but first she must face the betrayals of the past.

This is… Claire.

The estranged daughter of Denise, the woman who put her husband before her children, Claire took the opposite path and devoted her life to raising her family, sacrificing her marriage along the way. With her teenage sons about to flee the nest, she realises she may have left it too late to find her own happy ever after.

This is the story of two women, both alone, both cautionary tales of one of motherhood’s biggest decisions.

Who is more important, your partner or your children? And what happens if you make the wrong choice?

💠Extract:

💠My Thoughts: By the now the term emotional rollercoaster has become a reviewing cliche. It seems every book you read a review on is one. God, I’m probably guilty of this too so don’t be offended by it.

To me the term emotional rollercoaster is one I don’t use lightly. I do have to be up and down and literally shook with a headache. I want my head getting smashed from side to side into the safety bars of the ride. And I want the thrill, fear, laughter, love, hate, chills, nausea and absolute honestly and truth of the wind! I want it all! There aren’t many authors who can achieve such a head smashing. Shari Low is one of those in which we can rely on to give us exactly that. The emotional rollercoaster with a side of weak bladder laughter to balance it out.

This is Me is poignant, honest, funny and thought provoking book. Not going to lie it has a slow start, but it is totally worth the time invested into it. Once you’re in, you’re in!

It’s hard to write a review when you are faced with identifiable characters you know. This allows you to emerge yourself deeply into the read and the emotions of both protagonists. Whether you agree with them in heart or even morally or not. You will always be empathetic and you will always question why people choose the paths and people they do. Question priorities and why they differ from one another. It becomes real life. And when fiction becomes non-fiction then you know that’s a damn good read!

Life is a balancing act that none of us ever get right at first. This is Me is proof of that.

BT – One Minute Later by Susan Lewis.

Happy Thursday book geeks. I hope you’re all well and have had a good week so far. Don’t worry we’re nearly at the weekend 🙏🏻🍷

Anyway, today I am honoured to be finishing what can only be described as a beautiful tour for the fabulous author, Susan Lewis and her newest release, One Minute Later.

Before we start though let me tell you something. This is the worst review I have ever written! I feel ashamed for myself, but you know sometimes when you just go – ahh eff it? Yeah well that.

Happy days as they say 🤦🏻‍♀️

💙Blurb: With a high-flying job, a beautiful apartment and friends whose lives are as happy as her own, Vivienne Shager is living the dream. Then, on the afternoon of Vivi’s twenty-seventh birthday, one catastrophic minute changes everything.

Forced to move back to the small seaside town where she grew up, Vivi remembers the reasons she left. The secrets, lies and questions that now must be answered before it’s too late. But the answers lie in thirty years in the past…

Shelley Raynor’s family home, Deerwood Farm, has always been a special place until darkness strikes at its heart. When Vivi’s and Shelley’s worlds begin to entwine, it only takes a moment for the truth to unravel all of their lives.

💙My Thoughts: Ok, this is hard. I’m sitting here and have been trying to write this review for so long and you know what? I just can’t. Every time I go to say something I end up giving something away. I hate spoilers so much. You know what though I’ll try my best to give you something 🙈

Ok, so you know those books that sort of just grip you by the throat and leave you a bit breathless because of how real and raw it is?

Those books that stay with you and have you thinking? The real life books? The thought provoking ones? The powerful ones…

Well, this is one of those books. In fact, it could be a runner for too spot for these books. No word of a lie.

One Minute Later is a beautifully written tale of love, tragedy, family, love, secrets, self-worth and how we see and live life. It shows us that no matter what life can be seriously hard. To me though the most important part was the HUGE importance of organ donation it gives you. Like it or not it’s there and it’s serious food for thought. It’s an amazing thing to bring more awareness too.

Oh my god this is so shit isn’t it? 🤦🏻‍♀️😂

Do you know what? Just read it please. I promise you won’t be disappointed. You may struggle slightly at first with the connection between Vivi and Shelley like I did. You may not. However, if you do, let it go and carry on because it will all come together for you. And honestly when it does it will hurt your heart in both happiness and sadness. It blows you away it really does.

It’s a stunning read.

BT – Mummy’s Favourite by Sarah Flint.

Guys, it’s Tuesday, it’s proper cold and I have a spine chilling book to show you all about on today’s tour.

I’m jumping straight in…

👁Blurb: Buried in a woodland grave are a mother and her child.

One is alive. One is dead.

It is one of the most harrowing cases to hit D.C. Charlie Stafford’s department in years. Then more pairs of mothers and children go missing – and it’s Charlie’s job to find them.

Soon, Charlie is hunting down a brutal serial killer with a twisted mind. But as she closes in on the culprit, she realises she’s in more danger than she thought…

He’s watching. He’s waiting. Who’s next?

👁Extract:

👁My Thoughts: A compelling dark and utterly horrifying read.

As a mother this book absolutely put the shits up me, I’m not even going to lie. It is dire. It is excruciatingly evil and has you gripped by the throat from the off.

For a debut book I have to say Mummy’s Favourite has certainly made a huge impact in the book community and on me. Sarah Flint has Meticulously given us every single thing we want and love in a crime/serial killer read. For that she has already proven she will be an author to definitely watch out for.

It’s honestly a read so shocking, original and gritty. Chilling, engaging and suspenseful. Dark and utterly disturbing. After all that badness, is it wrong for me to say fantastic?

I can’t wait to see what D.C. Stafford gets up to next.

BT – All The Lonely People by David Owen.

APOLOGIES AS TOUR DATE FOR ME WAS 24/01/19. MOTHER DUTIES CALLED. ALL IS WELL.

Hello strangers. Long time no see hey? I know I’ve been awol for a while haven’t I? Guess what though? I’m back! Wooo 🥳

I’m taking it slowly, but I’m here and that’s the main thing. And what a way to come back too. Today is my day celebrating the fantastic David Owen and his even more fantastic book All The Lonely People.

Ready? Let’s go.

💾Blurb: Everyone tells Kat that her online personality – confident, funny, opinionated – isn’t her true self. Kat knows otherwise. The internet is her only way to cope with a bad day, chat with friends who get all her references, make someone laugh. But when she becomes the target of an alt-right trolling campaign, she feels she has no option but to Escape, Delete, Disappear.

With her social media shut down, her website erased, her entire online identity void, Kat feels she has cut away her very core: without her virtual self, who is she?

She brought it on herself. Or so Wesley keeps telling himself as he dismantles Kat’s world. It’s different, seeing one of his victims in real life and not inside a computer screen – but he’s in too far to back out now.

As soon as Kat disappears from the online world, her physical body begins to fade and while everybody else forgets that she exists, Wesley realises he is the only one left who remembers her. Overcome by remorse for what he has done, Wesley resolves to stop her disappearing completely. It might just be the only way to save himself.

All the Lonely People is a timely story about online culture – both good and bad – that explores the experience of loneliness in a connected world, and the power of kindness and empathy over hatred.

💾My Thoughts: I am loving the surge happening in the YA/Teens/Children’s Fiction genre that is purposely trying to lift young people up. Trying to make them see real life, see themselves, see each other. To be kind, not only to yourself, but to others. To understand that yes, life isn’t a bed of roses, but hey you can get through it. To try stay strong even when you don’t think you can. And not allow your fears to pierce deep enough to ruin you! It is so fucking amazing! And I am so inspired by the authors giving us books like this to read. Making a bloody difference!! You are all superstars!

David Owen is one of those authors I’m praising. All The Lonely People is everything and more I have mentioned above. He has given us a poignant, startling, fascinating and heart wrenching take on self-identity, feminism,

online bullying, trolling, right-wing hate groups, anxiety, depression, fear and friendship…. no seriously, the list is on going. It is more than just good.

Now you will know what I’m like and that I’m seriously hard to please so of course I have to be honest with you and me here. I defo heard the groans then from you all 😂 so I enjoyed the book immensely. The premise is remarkable. It’s original. It’s giving out love and hope to the world, it’s true and it’s living, but and it’s a big but mind, I needed more. I know, I know 🤦🏻‍♀️ It’s two small things do nothing excessive or damning.

Why? So without going to much into it and spoiling the book here because I really do recommend you read it and I’m not being responsible for spoiling anything.

1) It lacked depth of character. I wanted to know more about Kat and Safa. Their back stories are very important especially Safa’s who we don’t get told anything about which is frustrating.

2) I also found that dismissing online friendships and just concentrating on the toxic side of the internet was very harsh. There are going to be a lot lot of people who will read this book because of the pull of loneliness. I’m guessing that they may just question themselves, if like Kat, they spend more time online with friends that they do in what I suppose is real life. Real life is the internet too though and friendships are made every single day. They should never be dismissed.

This is so hard to explain. I’m not dissing this at all, I think Owen has portrayed the twat side of the internet perfectly, he really has. However, for someone who writes with such care and honesty that could have been incorporated into the read somehow.

Now I’ve got that of me chest back to the good!

I honestly recommend this book to any age group, gender, sexuality, anyone who has ever felt lost, lonely, insecure or/and afraid. So obviously the whole world then. It has the same message to us all. You are you and you should be proud of that. You should always relate kindly to others, but most importantly to yourself. Be empathetic, be courteous, be love and be loved. You are important no matter what anybody says or does! You have something to offer this world. You are the only one of you and the only one who can offer that uniqueness and light inside you to others. It’s a great book. In fact, it is a wonderful book and I honestly with all my heart hope it gets the recognition it deserves. Even though I’m a bad tit who took a point away from it. Sorry David 👎🏻

A rambling mess of a review for sure but it’s 4am I’ve just finished reading and I’m a tad bit angry at the world right now for the shit inside it and the horrors that take joy into being dismissive, volatile and horrible. Be kind people, you never know what’s happening behind closed doors and in people’s lives.

Can I just say here as well that as a mother of two teenage boys who used to read a lot and now don’t I’m going to try my absolute best to get them to read this because I think it would be extremely beneficial to them. I’m also going to be speaking to their school too. I am going to see if I can donate copies to their library so the children there who may never get a chance to see or hear about it, do. I am so glad I didn’t grow up in a digital world that’s for sure.

Go buy this book! It’s a small light of hope for the forgotten and a whole lot of love for the world.

BT – The Psychology of Time Travel by Kate Mascarenhas.

How amazing is a Friday though? You know what’s even more amazing? Kate Mascarenhas incredible book ThePsychology of Time Travel. Do you know what’s even better than that? An extract of the book! I know, I know, I spoil you.

Let’s get started…

⚜️Blurb: A time travel murder mystery from a brilliantly original new voice. Perfect for readers of Naomi Alderman’s The Power and Emily St John Mandel’s Station Eleven.

1967.

Four female scientists invent a time travel machine. They are on the cusp of fame: the pioneers who opened the world to new possibilities. But then one of them suffers a breakdown and puts the whole project in peril…

2017.

Ruby knows her beloved Granny Bee was a pioneer, but they never talk about the past. Though time travel is now big business, Bee has never been part of it. Then they receive a message from the future – a newspaper clipping reporting the mysterious death of an elderly lady…

2018.

When Odette discovered the body she went into shock. Blood everywhere, bullet wounds, that strong reek of sulphur. But when the inquest fails to find any answers, she is frustrated. Who is this dead woman that haunts her dreams? And why is everyone determined to cover up her murder?

⚜️My Thoughts: Right am not usually a Sci-Fi/Time Travelling type of gal at all but something about this book really intrigued me. Man am I seriously glad I chose this book to be the opening of something actually quite wonderful.

To live in a world where time travel is the norm is a fantastic concept. One I would be very much be interested in living if we could actually live in Kate Mascarenhas world.

The Psychology of Time Travel am not going to lie is complex book to read, however, once you’re actually in and have made connections with each character and where they are and at what times etc., it then becomes absolutely fascinating. A fresh, original and alternative premise with a truly beautiful underlining and up-to-date story focusing on mental health.

To read from an all female cast perspective from many era’s really gives you insight into how time changes reality now. It’s a clever, thought provoking, inspiring, wonderful book and one I could not recommend to you any more.

I’m sorry for the shite review people, but it’s a hard one to have to write about without giving anything at all away.

BT – The Dead Ex by Jane Corry.

Happy Thursday gorgeous book geeks! I hope you’re all doing good.

So, not only is today the final day on this wonderful blog tour for The Dead Ex by Jane Corry, it’s also my Happy Birthday!! How amazing that I get to represent an author and book so amazing today of all days.

🌹Blurb: HE CHEATED. HE LIED. HE DIED.

Vicki’s husband David once promised to love her in sickness and in health. But after a brutal attack left her suffering with epilepsy, he ran away with his mistress.

So when Vicki gets a call one day to say that he’s missing, her first thought is ‘good riddance’. But then the police find evidence suggesting that David is dead. And they think Vicki had something to do with it.

What really happened on the night of David’s disappearance?

And how can Vicki prove her innocence, when she’s not even sure of it herself?

🌹My Thoughts: When revenge takes control there’s no getting out of its way. My Dead Ex is proof of that.

A cleverly thought out and enticing plot teamed with interesting, daring and complex characters give us the escapism we crave. Touching on subjects that many of us would never come across it’s been done with care and empathy which shows in the characters and their troubles.

The Dead Ex gives us it all. Slightly long winded at times, but nevertheless worth every single minute invested into it.

A mind niggling, vindictive, dark and dangerous malicious chase of time, life and love.

BT – Relight My Fire by Joanna Bolouri.

Hiya Book Geeks.

Thank you for taking five minutes out to join me today as I give you my truths on day number six on the book blog for Joanna Bolouri’s brand new release, Relight My Fire.

🔥Blurb: When Phoebe and Oliver had their happy ending, they thought the hard part was over. And now, with a five year old daughter, they are far from the blissful hedonistic lifestyle of when they first started dating.

Not one for giving up, Phoebe creates a sexy wishlist: a jar where they can ask the other for anything they’ve ever wanted in bed – or out of it. But with distractions aplenty, will they be able to relight the fire in the bedroom?

🔥My Thoughts: I’ll start by saying if you’re prudish, don’t read this book. To everybody else, get your money out.

The end!

Only messing, I was genuinely just going to write in big bold letters: YOU NEED THIS BOOK IN YOUR LIFE!

It’s true like, you do. But, I thought I best give you just a tad more.

RMF is a follow on read from our JB’s sensational debut, The List. I would wholeheartedly recommend reading that first. I’m not saying you can’t read this one first mind, but you will thank me later if you do, I promise.

So, we’re back five years after leaving a wonderful happy ending with the fabulous, Phoebe and Oliver, and now demanding jobs and a daughter. Stuck in a rut, in their life and their sex life they’re introduced to a sexy wish jar. What’s a sexy wish jar? Well, it’s a jar in which you can put in anything you’ve ever wanted to ask your other half to do in bed.

(Not going to lie I was a bit disappointed because my sexy wish jar would be a jar of Nutella and a spoon.)

We all know happy endings don’t always mean they end up as happy endings. Most of us in relationships with or without children understand that they all do go stale and could do with some spice put back into them sometimes. Having a modern, up-to-date book that delves into this subject is wonderful. It’s totally relatable and this is what makes it so good. It’s real life, real relationships, real love, real ruts, real time that we end up not spending together because life somehow gets in the way. It’s not easy to keep that connection from the beginning days, so I’m glad it’s been done honestly, respectfully, straight to the point and of course in the hilarious fashion in which our JB (Joanna Bolouri not Justin Bieber) has us accustomed too.

RMF is descriptive but not full on porn, I did expect it to be worse. Worse in a good way that is. However, I’m very hard to make blush so this had me dead from the start with the endless innuendos and hilarious one liners. It is also not just based on sex, although I know a lot of us wouldn’t have minded that. It has a fantastic premise and some nice run along storylines which keeps us drawn in and interesting throughout and also more depth and insight into the characters themselves.

JB is crazy! She amazes me with her talent, execution and humour. As always her flow is on point and reads perfectly. She’s down to earth, clever and I’m pretty smitten with her to tell you the truth. Her books are like stress relief to me.

She is without a doubt RomCom Queen by far and give her a chance and she will be after the Bonk-Buster crown from Rebecca Chance. Yes, I said it…. Now that is some serious praise indeed!

I honestly loved Relight My Fire – the book that is, not the shit song by Take That! It’s funny, energetic, quick, easy, spicy and shocking! You’ll definitely get through it faster than one of those pink gins you have at the end of one of them proper shit days.

BT – One Summer by Jenny Hale

Happy Friday Book Geeks.

Thank you for taking five minutes out to join us today here on TBGWP and day one on The Blog Blitz for Jenny Hale’s brand new release One Summer.

There’s no messing around with me today so I’ll just get to it.

🔹Blurb:

One moment can change everything…

Alice Emerson and best friend Sasha Miller have made a pact. They’ve decided to swap city living for the beautiful white beaches of the Outer Banks and pour everything they have into launching an ice cream shop in the little house by the sea where Alice spent blissful childhood holidays with her grandfather. As Alice and Sasha add colour to the walls of the beach house and tempt the locals with their delicious recipes, their fresh new life begins to take shape.

Swept away by her plans, love is the last thing on Alice’s mind. But she keeps running into mysterious doctor Jack Barnes, and finds herself falling for his golden charm and warm smile. As they laugh through sunshine-filled days and long romantic evenings, Alice tries hard not to think he could be the one for her – Jack is only here for the season, and Alice has had her fair share of heartbreak.

Just when Alice’s summer couldn’t be more perfect, she discovers an old letter tucked away in the beach house. It contains a family secret that turns Alice’s world upside down and threatens the future of the ice cream shop. And then Jack reveals a secret of his own…

Will Alice have her dreams shattered and her heart broken, or can she find true happiness this summer?

🔹My Thoughts: You all know by now that I’m a huge Jenny Hale fan, so it will come as no surprise that I am all in for this book.

Yet again we are taken on a tranquil beautiful journey of family, friendship and love that our Jenny is best known for.

Taken to the beaches and absolute delightful Outer Backs of North Carolina we are given a read that takes us on a journey of new beginnings with Alice and her son Henry (who I will admit to being a breath of fresh air to the read) and her best friend Sasha. Helping along a great premise we’re given secrets, twists and descriptive and in-depth gorgeous family memories. Together this provides us with a laid-back and easy summer read.

Now as always I’ll give you the truth and my truth today with One Summer is that it did (to me) have pacing issues. It’s slow to build up and then pretty quick near the end. I think some may find it long and tedious at times because of this.

I also really disliked Jack and his manipulative vibe which resulted in him ALWAYS getting his own way. This had me wanting to jump in the pages screaming ‘Alice, leg it!, leg it now, proper fast!’. Red Flags everywhere with that one let me tell you. To be fair this didn’t take much away for me, but because I’m deducting points I know you will want to know why if I say I really enjoyed it, which I did.

Jenny Hale does feel good romance books that are happy go lucky and have magical happy endings. These reads are perfect for those who just want a beautiful escape. Those who just want to relax and forget about their troubles and just be in the sweetness and goodness of it all. Sometimes that is exactly what we need. One Summer has an easy-read, laid-back style, which is perfect for these types of books and what’s so great about that is that Jenny makes no apologies for any of that which I am so grateful for.

One Summer is the perfect accompaniment to your summer this year. Whether it be on holiday, at home, in the sun, wind, rain or snow. It is easy escapism for the romantic in us all.

🔹About me by Jenny Hale:

When I graduated college, one of my friends said, “Look out for this one; she’s going to be an author one day.” Despite being an avid reader and a natural storyteller, it wasn’t until that very moment that the idea of writing novels occurred to me.

Sometimes our friends can see the things that we can’t.

While I didn’t start straight away, that comment sowed a seed and several years, two children, and hundreds of thousands of words later, I completed a novel that I felt was worthy of publication. The result was Coming Home for Christmas, a heart-warming story about the magic of love at Christmas, and 2017 TV movie on The Hallmark Channel.

The rest is history.

When I’m not writing, I’m a mother of two boys and a wife to a very supportive husband.
