BT – Secrets of Santorini by Patricia Wilson.

Hello lovely book geeks of the world.

It’s Monday, I know you all can’t be bothered, so I’ll jump in quickly on my hosted day today on bestselling author Patricia Wilson’s upcoming summer sensation Secrets of Santorini book tour.

🔸🔹Blurb: Sent away to a convent school in Dublin at the age of five, Irini McGuire has always had a strained and distant relationship with her mother, Bridget, a celebrated archaeologist who lives on the paradise island of Santorini. So, when Irini receives news that Bridget has been injured at a dig and is in a coma, she knows it is finally time to return to the island of her birth.

Reading through her mother’s notes at her bedside, Irini starts to realise how little she knows about Bridget’s life. Now, driven by rumours that her mother’s injury was no accident, Irini must uncover the dark secrets behind her family’s separation.

Will she discover the truth about her parents and her past before it is too late?

🔸🔹My Thoughts: Ok so I must say that I have I’ve never read anything by Patricia Wilson before. I know, I know, I’m a disgrace. Not only is she a bestseller she is Scouse! Letting the side down I know.

Usually this type of book is not my go to read at all. I don’t know why, but something about Secrets of Santorini immediately pulled me in and had me wanting to give it a go.

Anyway, I did.

I’m here.

I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I’m seriously impressed

In the sense of writing, plot, characters Secrets of Santorini is just beautiful.

Wilson writes with such depth, emotion and clarity that you completely lose yourself to the power of her words and the beautiful island of Santorini.

For me slow to get into, but worth the time invested into it. I also do not have any interest in Greek mythology either. However, it was meticulously researched and was very easy to follow for someone with no knowledge on this.

With Santorini being the go to place of the moment this is definitely a book to take with you to get more into the mood or one if you’re missing the place from your holiday there. Or last Greek holiday. Or of you’re poor like me, use it as complete escapism whilst making use of some of the sun we’ve been having here in the UK.

Just beautiful!

The now elderly women involved in those events told Patricia their story, and her celebrated debut Island of Secrets (150k copies sold) was the result. Villa of Secrets (60k copies sold) was inspired by documents found in a secret room in a police station in Rhodes detailing the fate of the Jews on the island in 1944. BT – The Never Game by Jeffery Deaver.

Hello my lovely book geeks,

How are you all?

Today I am hosting day number four on the blog tour for the legendary author Jeffery Deaver and his outstanding new book, The Never Game.

Let’s go….

👤Blurb: A student kidnapped from the park.

Nineteen-year-old Sophie disappears one summer afternoon. She wakes up to find herself locked inside a derelict warehouse, surrounded by five objects. If she uses them wisely, she will escape her prison. Otherwise she will die.

An investigator running out of time.

Sophie’s distraught father calls in the one man who can help find his daughter: unique investigator Colter Shaw. Raised in the wilderness by survivalist parents, he is an expert tracker with a forensic mind trained to solve the most challenging cases. But this will be a test even for him.

A killer playing a dangerous game.

Soon a blogger called Henry is abducted – left to die in the dark heart of a remote forest – and the whole case gets turned on its head. Because this killer isn’t following the rules; he’s changing them. One murder at a time…

👤My Thoughts: Jeffery Deaver is such a huge name in the thriller genre that it’s hard not to have heard of him and his work. I shamefully however, have never read one of his books. Well, I have now obviously, but you get what I mean.

The Never Game is the start a brand new investigative series starring survivalist Colton Shaw. Shaw a very clever and self-aware man makes a living by helping out on missing people cases that offer monetary rewards. We are introduced and given little flashbacks into his life over the years to let us start to build up a relationship with him. I found him to be very endearing and I am really excited to move onto the next chapter and find out more about him. He is an original and refreshing protagonist, which is something we actually needed in this genre without realising.

Plot wise I can’t fault The Never Game. A strategic and intense line leading to an unforgettable and solid bomb. Carefully researched and superbly written. It shoves us into the gaming industry with its underlying darkness and one very dangerous criminal. One who puts his victims into survival scenarios based on a game millions are playing online called The Mystery Man.

Now, this, I actually worried about. I’m not a gamer, I know nothing of the gamer life or games themselves. Yes, I may have teenage boys who own every console available and are big into the gaming world, but my knowledge on the subject is very minimalistic. I think a lot of people will get wary of this and it may put them off from reading. For me though I didn’t need to worry. Deaver has researched well and gives us step-by-step information to help us along our way into this unknown technological world. In fact, I learned a bit about it too. My kids think I’m stupid and looked at me strangely when I thought I was able to communicate with them about it, but obviously not and I still know nothing🤦🏻‍♀️😂

No, honestly it’s fine. Do not be put off by it.

All in all I recommend this book to you 100% it is raw, emotional, complex and extremely excitingly deceptive. It’s super fast-paced and grips dangerously hard from the off. The twists are there in full to throw you off and the suspense is an absolute killer.

I could not put it down at all! No lie, the only time I did was to go and make a cup of tea when it got a bit slow in the middle. It certainly picked back up though and the double plot intertwined gracefully and dramatic. It’s one of those reads were you think you’re clever and see what’s going on and to happen only to end up getting your eye wiped so hard and bad you end up with a bloody sty!

Go read it.

BT – Labyrinth Junction by Hayley Davenport-Smith.

Happy Tuesday everyone.

We’re here today on day one of the blog tour for the absolutely amazing children’s book, Labyrinth Junction!

Let’s jump right in…

🐉Blurb: A magical land. A prison in the sky. An underwater city.

Little does Ben envisage this is what awaits him as he escapes the clutches of two bullies and climbs into the dark and gloomy cave. That’s when he discovers it, deep inside…Labyrinth Junction, a gateway to other worlds! Once he gets past the old witch standing guard, he’s led down a dark tunnel by a peculiar talking dog into the strange and magical land of Numblebrook and his adventures truly begin!

With his life in peril and trapped in Numblebrook, Ben befriends a pretty orphan girl called Amy and her pet dragon. Together, they and the strange Moonbeamer people set off on a series of dangerous missions in an effort to solve a riddle, free the land of the evil King and get Ben back home.

Labyrinth Junction is an exciting and fast moving fantasy story full of perilous adventures and heart warming friendships. It is a story about the sheer bravery and determination of a young boy who is prepared to risk his life if it means finding his way home. It will appeal to 8 – 12 year olds with a taste for adventure and excitement.

🐉My Thoughts: First of all can I just say that the cover to Labyrinth Junction is utterly fantastic! I absolutely adore it. For a children’s book I just found it so much more endearing and something more child like which would make children want to read it more. I don’t even care if that doesn’t make sense it makes sense to me 🤦🏻‍♀️😂

If you have younger children who love adventures and magic and puzzles and dragons and witches and weirdness then this is your book. Labyrinth Junction is a fast-paced, jam packed, clever and spell-bounding read.

I’m a 36 year old mum of two teenage boys and I absolutely loved every minute of it. I even wanted them to read it, but of course it’s not a games console or a phone. Such a shame! I wish I had this in their library when they were younger because it for sure would have been one of their favourites.

When it comes to younger readers keeping them involved or interested can be a very hard thing. I’ll give HDS a huge pat on the back here because she has managed to produce excitement in every page. She has managed to give our children a captivating book of wonder and intrigue. It’s honestly a fantastic children’s book. I cannot recommend it to you more.

I’m so looking forward to seeing what happens when we pass Labyrinth Junction again.

BT – You, Me and the Movies by Fiona Collins.

Hiya, you lot!

Did you all have an amazing bank holiday weekend? Are you all sunburned and still a bit hungover? Don’t worry we’re all in the same boat.👀💊👍🏻

Today is day one on Fiona Collins’s blog tour for her upcoming release, You, Me and the Movies.

I love a bit of Fiona Collins me so I was made up to get asked to come onto to the tour and read the book. She has had me crossing my legs in laughter far too many times. You mothers and older ladies will know what I mean by that 😉

Shall we get started?

🎬Blurb: Two people. Ten classic films. A love story you’ll never forget.

Arden has just started university when she meets Mac – and quickly falls head over heels for the handsome, charismatic film lecturer. Their love affair is dramatic, exciting and all-consuming; the sort of thing you only see in the movies.

It couldn’t last. But thirty years later, leading a very different life, Arden is visiting a friend in hospital when she suddenly comes across the man she never forgot. Badly injured in an accident, Mac can only make brief references to the classic films they once watched together: Casablanca, A Star is Born, Pretty Woman among others… and they make Arden remember everything.

The bittersweet memories of their relationship help Arden re-connect with the world in a way she no longer thought was possible. But will a movie-worthy love ever be hers again?

🎬My Thoughts: You know me by now and I will always tell you the truth with my reviews. Blog tour or not. The truth is the truth.

You, me and the movies is unfortunately not my favourite. I see it being an absolute smash and a book most readers will have on their TBR. It’s beautiful, it’s fun, it’s sensitive and poignant. It’s a clear winner for people who want a clever and original love story with well thought out characters. I do in all honestly want you to read this book! Seriously pre-order it or grab the ebook now and see for yourself.

Obviously you’re going to want to know my issues with it after that aren’t you?

So, for me it is not a book you can just casually pick up and read. It’s one you really have to give time and effort too. I wouldn’t say it’s long winded, but you do have to give it time. When it comes to this genre that is just not for me. I don’t want to have to try if you get me. I just want easy, none thinking reading.

I am also seriously no movie buff! Especially with the classics and basically any movie, so I did get lost a bit with some of the movie details and references.

I also couldn’t fully connect with Arden and for me I need that connection.

See, it’s not even bad. It’s just me being me. But I can’t not tell you that because it’s a blog tour post and review.

Anyway, read the other reviews they are hot shit! And one of the best things about it for me is that it has given me reason to have one super massive movie marathon. I do intent to watch the ten films from the book! Oh, and for sure in Arden and Mac’s order. I also will re-read You, Me and the Movies again after that movie marathon and when the paperback is released. Who knows I might eat my words. I’ve done it before haven’t I?

Right now it’s a 3/5 star book for me and that in itself is brilliant!

So if you’re wanting a nostalgic, intense, original, tearfully funny read with a dramatic love story and a huge slice of movie pie then this is definitely your book. Make sure you have your popcorn, tissues and wine ready, you’re going to need them all.

BT – A View to a Kilt by Wendy Holden.

Happy Sunday fellow book geeks of the world. Today we are donning our kilts and reading our way through a little sneaky peak of the fabulous, A View to a Kilt by the one and only Wendy Holden!!

Wendy Holden though please? Queen of RomCom. Queen of Chick-Lit. Queen of the bestsellers! Get that crown Wendy babe 👑

Shall we get started?

♥️💙Blurb: London’s most glamorous glossy magazine is in trouble. Advertising revenues are non existent, and if editor Laura Lake can’t pick them up, she’s out of a job.

According to those in the know, Scotland is having a fashion moment. Haggis tempura is on Michelin-starred menus, smart spas are offering porridge facials, and a chain of eco-hotels is offering celebrity bagpipe lessons. So Laura’s off to a baronial estate in the Scottish Highlands to get a slice of this ultra-high-end market.

It’s supposed to be gorgeous, glitzy and glamorous. But intrigue follows Laura like night follows day. And at Glenravish Castle – a shooting lodge fit for a billionaire – Laura finds herself hunting for a scoop that won’t just save her job, it could save her life…

💙♥️Extract:

💙♥️My Mini Thoughts: If you haven’t already been introduced to Laura Lake then you have seriously been missing out! She is honestly one of the best chick lit characters around. Don’t worry if you haven’t though because you can jump straight in here with A View to a Kilt and read it as a stand-alone.

As always with a Wendy Holden read you end up completely engrossed in her words. With a decent character set up and a plot that seems pretty straight forward, it in fact is not and actually laughs in your face. It then calls you stupid and drags you back into the read with a bit of mystery and a lot of smirking! Can’t beat a book that not only smirks at you but has you smirking right back at it. Very clever writing. Well Done to our Wend on that one 👍🏻 thoroughly enjoyable!

A View to a Kilt is the escapism we all need and deserve. It’s funny, it’s bold, it’s crazy, it’s fast-paced and it’s bloody golden. Shit, I mean tartan!

BT – The Psychology of Time Travel by Kate Mascarenhas.

How amazing is a Friday though? You know what’s even more amazing? Kate Mascarenhas incredible book ThePsychology of Time Travel. Do you know what’s even better than that? An extract of the book! I know, I know, I spoil you.

Let’s get started…

⚜️Blurb: A time travel murder mystery from a brilliantly original new voice. Perfect for readers of Naomi Alderman’s The Power and Emily St John Mandel’s Station Eleven.

1967.

Four female scientists invent a time travel machine. They are on the cusp of fame: the pioneers who opened the world to new possibilities. But then one of them suffers a breakdown and puts the whole project in peril…

2017.

Ruby knows her beloved Granny Bee was a pioneer, but they never talk about the past. Though time travel is now big business, Bee has never been part of it. Then they receive a message from the future – a newspaper clipping reporting the mysterious death of an elderly lady…

2018.

When Odette discovered the body she went into shock. Blood everywhere, bullet wounds, that strong reek of sulphur. But when the inquest fails to find any answers, she is frustrated. Who is this dead woman that haunts her dreams? And why is everyone determined to cover up her murder?

⚜️My Thoughts: Right am not usually a Sci-Fi/Time Travelling type of gal at all but something about this book really intrigued me. Man am I seriously glad I chose this book to be the opening of something actually quite wonderful.

To live in a world where time travel is the norm is a fantastic concept. One I would be very much be interested in living if we could actually live in Kate Mascarenhas world.

The Psychology of Time Travel am not going to lie is complex book to read, however, once you’re actually in and have made connections with each character and where they are and at what times etc., it then becomes absolutely fascinating. A fresh, original and alternative premise with a truly beautiful underlining and up-to-date story focusing on mental health.

To read from an all female cast perspective from many era’s really gives you insight into how time changes reality now. It’s a clever, thought provoking, inspiring, wonderful book and one I could not recommend to you any more.

I’m sorry for the shite review people, but it’s a hard one to have to write about without giving anything at all away.

BLOG TOUR: 💍How to Hook a Husband by Sarah Harvey.

Hello lovely book people of the world,

How are you all? Thank you for yet again joining me today on another fabulous Blog Tour.

Today, I am the finishing host on, Sarah Harvey’s How to Hook a Husband Tour.

As always I have the details of everything about the book and Sarah because if you’re like me then you’re a book geg. You like to know absolutely everything about the book you’re reading and the author who reads it. Plus, how cool is that we can actually just go speak to them on social media? Love it!

So, obviously I have all the gegging bits and book details but I have something just a bit special too. I have the lovely Sarah sharing her inspiration behind this book. Cheaters beware…

💍 Blurb: When Belle returns home from backpacking for her best friend’s wedding and catches the groom-to-be with another girl, the wedding is called off and Nicky is eternally grateful.

Realising her friend has a talent for spotting men with a roving eye, Nicky puts her friend to work helping others and soon Belle is hanging out in bars and hiding in bushes, hoping to catch unsuspecting Casanovas…

Then she is hired to follow the elusive Eddie Farrar and everything changes as Belle finds herself falling under his spell.

Will she be able to resist his charms or is there more to him than meets the eye?

💍 The inspiration behind this book, cheating partners by Sarah Harvey.

It all started with a wheelie bin. That and a growing sense of paranoia. We often say that women have a sixth sense when it comes to their man and his fidelity. Perhaps that is so, I do completely believe in the idea that there are other senses than those that are commonly recognized, but I also actually don’t think you need to be psychic to know when your man is playing away from home, because despite often being devious little buggers, they are also, in a very oxymoron kind of way (emphasis on the moron) usually so very bad at lying that you’d have to be deaf, dumb and blind not to notice that something untoward is going on. There are, according to the glossy women’s magazines, many tell tale signs of infidelity, new hair, new clothes, new aftershave, a sudden desire for the kind of six pack that hasn’t been pulled cold from the fridge, disappearing at random times with excuses that seem about as genuine as a politician kissing a baby, his mobile phone suddenly becoming more of a no go zone than Area 51, to name but a few. So what do you do when this happens to you?

Well I suppose you could confront him, some might take that more obvious route, but little old non-confrontational me, well, I chose a different route.

I chose stalking.

And it was thus, many moons ago, having experienced all of the above with a man who seemed to find commitment about as enticing as a cold bath in winter, that I found myself one night, when he had once again cancelled plans with me citing the need for an early night, standing at the bottom of his driveway, dressed like I was auditioning to be the new milk tray man. The possibility that his early night may not be solo, just wouldn’t leave my mind, and I had some vague idea to tiptoe up like a ninja shadow in the night and peer through his windows to see if he had company. But there was one little problem with my cunning plan, he was out, car gone, house in blackness.

I was back to the drawing board. As I turned to go back to my car, pondering the fact that I now at least knew for sure he was lying to me, the sweep of headlights lit the darkened road as a car turned into it. I would have recognized that throaty engine anywhere. The sound of it had once made my heart leap with excitement knowing that it heralded his arrival. Now my heart screamed like a girl and tried to hide in my rib cage. It was an open road. He was bound to see me.

Wide eyed and panicked, looking frantically left and right for a low wall or a large bush, I realised that there was literally only one place that I could hide.

I’ll always be massively grateful for the fact that it was the day after rubbish collection day. I remember thinking as I squatted in the dark and stinking belly of that wheelie bin, and heard him drive past and go into the house, that if only there were some holes in the bottom, I could wheel myself up the drive Dalek style, surreptitiously lift the lid with my head, andget the final evidence I had so needed in order to let go. And then it truly dawned on me, where I was, and what I was doing, and I realized with a clarity and clearness that the air I was currently breathing most definitely didn’t have, that it didn’t matter if he had the whole of Girls Aloud dancing naked in his kitchen, the only thing that really deserved to be in that bin, was my relationship.

And so I clambered out, carefully wiped the slime off my shoes on his lawn, and without once looking back, walked away…
